Wood Quarters uses premium grades of several wood types.

-Cherry:  Like all fruit trees, cherry belongs to the rose family and was used as early as 400 B.C .by the Greeks and Romans for furniture making. Cherry helped define American traditional design because Colonial cabinet makers recognized its superior woodworking qualities. Today, Cherry helps define Shaker, Mission and Country styling. The wood from the Cherry tree can be described in a single word: beautiful.  Its rich red-brown color deepens with age. Small dark gum flecks add to its interest.

Cherry is used in many of the Made to Measure furniture items.

-Maple: A light colored Hardwood. Maple has a close, fine, uniform texture that is generally straight grained .Maple has been a favorite of American Furniture makers since Colonial Days. A very durable hardwood that will take any color of stain or paint well.

Maple is used in all styles of  Made to Measure Furniture at Wood Quarters.

Oak  It has a reddish cast and is a very hard wood with a mostly straight open grain. This is an extremely durable, great wear resistance hardwood that accepts stain well to a beautiful finish.  Wood Quarters uses Red Oak. Red Oak grows only in North America and is found further north than any other Oak species. A big slow growing tree, red oak takes 20 years to mature and lives an average of 300 years.

Oak is used in Made to Measure Furniture at Wood Quarters.

-Parawood:  The Parawood tree, often simply called the rubber tree, is a tree of major economic importance because of it's sap like extract (known as latex). The latex can be collected and is the primary source of natural rubber.  The tree can reach a height of over 80 feet. Once the trees are 5-6 years old, the harvest of latex can begin. Older trees yield more latex but they stop producing after 25 years. Once the tree stops producing latex it is cut down for it's lumber and another tree is planted in its place. The wood from this tree, referred to as Parawood, is used in the manufacture of furniture. It is valued for it's dense grain, minimal shrinkage, attractive light color and ease of finishing. It is also prized as an "environmentally friendly" wood, as it makes use of plantation grown trees that have been cut down at the end of their latex producing cycle. .

Parawood is used in all Dining Furniture (tables, chairs, bar stools), Home Accents, Occasional, and many of the desks and Home Entertainment centers at Wood Quarters.

Pine: A soft wood that comes from various parts of the world. Wood Quarters uses Eastern White Pine. It is grown in the US and has a yellow color and brown knots. A good wood for painting.

Due to the soft nature of this wood, it is not normally stocked in the store. It is available for special order. Used for bookcases and certain Made to Measure Furniture items.

Wood-Real Wood    What is the Difference

Solid Wood, all natural wood...when speaking in terms of furniture, they have one thing in common. Everything is manufactured from wood and/or plywood. Wood Quarters does not use particle board in the manufacturing of its products. What does that mean to you? Bottom line--QUALITY. It promises more solidly constructed pieces of furniture.

Ever wonder why your Grandparents furniture was passed down from Generation to Generation and some of today's furniture  may only hold up about a decade? It's the lack of quality in many of today's furniture manufacturers. Wood Quarters has a true commitment to quality craftsmanship. Wood Quarters knows that the integrity of a furniture pieces design will be upheld for the long haul, if real wood is used throughout.
